(by clicking on this link you will enter into a culture where the Aztec Dance is a way of life that teaches how to live in harmony and balance. Where values and believes always take into account the community as a whole.)

The Rites of Passage   is the process to denote rituals marking the transitional phase between childhood and full inclusion into a tribe or social group.

Rites of passage have three phases: separation, transition, and reincorporation.

In the first phase, people withdraw from their current status (in our environment at MacLaren, gang affiliated/street mentality/ antisocial behavior) and prepare to move from one place or status to another. “The first phase (of separation) comprises symbolic behavior (The DANCA; The Dance) signifying the detachment of the individual or group … from an earlier fixed point in the social structure. There is often a detachment or “cutting away” from the former self in this phase, which is signified in symbolic actions and rituals. For example: the cutting of the hair for a person who has just joined the military. He or she is “cutting away” the former self.

National Geographic on Teenage Brains

This is a great article that debunks some theories about teenage brains and explains well why they are…different.
